ABOUT CASEY
Casey (formally Catherine Turner) began taking GYROTONIC® sessions while dancing with Texas Ballet Theater in Fort Worth, Texas. She fell in love with the system immediately! As a dancer, it gave her a better understanding of her alignment and allowed her to embellish her port de bras without losing the integrity of the positions. It also helped on a functional level to reduce lower back and hip pain that had started in her late teens.
She continued training at San Francisco GYROTONIC® while participating in the LINES Ballet Training Program. She worked with Master Trainers Debra Rose, Nora Heiber, and Lisa Marie Goodwin-Rice during her teacher training and apprentice period. While performing as a freelance artist with Oakland Ballet Company, Copious Dance Theater and others, Casey started teaching private sessions. She then accepted a position as Dancer and Dance Captain with Royal Caribbean International. In between trips around the world, she completed courses on the Leg Extension Unit with Kathy Van Patten and Applications for Dancers Levels 1 & 2 with Adriana Thompson and Miriam Barbosa.
In the fall of 2018, Casey retired from performing and opened The Movement Barn. Since settling into land life, she has continued her education with Pathways of the Shoulders, Hips, and Spine with Angela Crowley; Applications for Osteoporosis with Justine Bernard; and Pre and Post Natal Applications with Gina Paolillo. She became a Certified GYROKINESIS® Instructor in 2024, completing Pre-Training with Emily Hudson; Foundation Training with Claudia Tudose; Apprentice Review with Justine Bernard; and Final Certification with Chantal Deeble.
When she’s not at the studio, Casey can be found teaching ballet at various locations in Central Virginia, choreographing for the Charlottesville Opera, playing with her pup, Bonnie, or spending time with her new fiance. She is thrilled to be able to share her knowledge and experience with the Charlottesville area!
